lists addendum

stylus singles list. looks decent so far. i think i would like stylus a whole whole lot if they were more aggressive about cutting their vestigial indie-rock fat.

Mat said: Yeah, I'd say that looks decent.

I'm not such a big fan of that Imogen Heap song Hide & Seek, but I'm not all that opposed to it, either, I suppose.

I definitely liked Spoon's "I Turned My Camera On," and their album as a whole. Then again, I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.

Franz Ferdinand seemed about in the right place, but it would've been nice to see Missy a little higher. That's quibbling, though.

Is that the Kanye West mascot bear in the top graphic? He'll probably wind up higher on the list than he should.

rmd said: hide & seek is great!

rmd said: tracks on that list that have remixes that are better than the originals:

M83 – Don’t Save Us from the Flames (Superpitcher Remix)
Goldfrapp - Ooh La La (Tiefschwarz Remix)
LCD Soundsystem – Tribulations (Lindstrøm Remix)
Missy Elliot - Lose Control (Jacques Lu Cont Mix)
Feist - Inside And Out (Ewan Pearson Remix)

tracks that have really good remixes that might be better than the original, or are at least well worth hearing:

Oh My Gosh (Jaxx Club Mix)
Lindstrøm – I Feel Space (M.A.N.D.Y. Remix)
Vitalic – My Friend Dario (Dima Prefers Newbeat Mix)
Gwen Stefani – Hollaback Girl (Diplo Remix)
Madonna – Hung Up (Stuart Price Extended Remix Dub)

og said: the most recent round (20-11) was pretty ugly... there are some great songs in there, but bucky done gone is about my least favorite track on arular, hollaback girl makes me cringe ever since the 100th time i heard it, the ciara/ludacris track was a major let down considering the potential for a collab between those two, and i've never heard of antony and the johnsons...

rmd said: add to that "remix is better list":

Snoop Dogg - Signs (Still Life Peg Remix)
The Killers - Mr Brightside (Thin White Duke Remix)

songs in the top ten i really like: the top four and still tippin'.

songs in the top ten i'm not sure i've heard: helena, hounds of love, hate it or love it (!).

rmd said: some individual ballots that i like/have songs i want to check out: todd burns, michael f. gill, jessica popper.

og said: you wanna ysi the i feel space mandy remix?

rmd said: here you go. not as good as the original, but still interesting.

Mat said: Exclamation point indeed. Hate it or love it was one of the few bright spots on the radio back in August. It made my many hours of driving the countryside w/o an mp3 or cd player a bit more tolerable.

og said: did you ever listen to the instrumental track to hate it or love it posted back in october?

rmd said: oh yeah, it was pleasant enough. i don't think i've heard the vocal track though.

og said: what is it i'm missing about 'since U been gone'? i've listened to it closely about 5 times in the last year, but have not found anything remarkable about it... i realize that a number of critics are impressed with the hook, but even this strikes me as more of a gentle curve...

anyone care to defend it?

rmd said: i really like it. i wish i could find a frank kogan piece on it/her (if one exists...), i think that would set you straight...

i won't try to convert you with words, i am really horrible at that. but according to that stylus reviewer you have 32 more tries to discover it's brilliance... listen to it LOUD.

og said: why is sean paul's 'we be burnin' not more prominent on more of these singles lists? am i the only one who thinks this is sean paul's best effort yet?

i can see why 'check on it' is missing, since it seems like it just came out, but 'we be burnin' has been out for quite a while...
