pitchfuxxx

quote of the week:

... This all hinges on the assumption that the Pitchforkization of dance music discourse (or the dancification of Pitchfork discourse) has done something awful to dance music discourse and, consequently, dance music itself. This itself rests on the assumption that Pitchfork's pitchforkiness (i.e. corny indie fuxxiness) perserveres despite its critical warming toward dance music, and in effect "conquers" dance music under the banner of corny indie fuxxx.

rmd said: actually, i believe that tim finney is gay. umm...

he wasn't really talking about what pf did (or didn't do) to dance music, but rather to dance music discourse (one of ilm's stocks in trade). and you're right, taken in context, i think something of what he was trying to convey was how lame it is that people concern themselves pf's infuence and how the indie kids think of dance music. the thing is, pf isn't a completely dismissable "stupid website" anymore, they have a handful of great writers (mostly recent additions) that keep me checking the site (jess harvell, philip sherburne, nitsuh abebe, julianne shepherd, dave stelfox, a couple others), so the issue isn't completely cut and dried.

plus, the way he said it was way funny.
