K Records, Helsing Junction Farm, and Lasercave are up to their old shenanigans once again: The Helsing Junction Sleepover. Its another perfect weekend of amazing food, amazing people, swimming, camping, and the best possible festival setting: a huge beautiful organic farm in rural Washington. You can see Helsing Junction Farm in the acclaimed Lasercave documentary Growing Awareness, now go on the ride! Delicious organic food will be available for sale at the Food Tent, all proceeds go to support the event and local non-profits. Come prepared to drink locally roasted gourmet coffees served by Olympia Coffee Roasting Co.

The price is $35 at the door for the whole weekend, including camping. Or you can go to K Records’ web store to buy your tickets ahead of time at a discount!

We encourage you to bring your own plate/bowl and utensils to minimize waste!

Sunday, May 16: All Day Work Party at the North Portland Farm Annex. It’s a sprint! Things are going swimmingly. We have an incredible water hook up, a developing fence, a thousand onions, and several trees breathing great sighs of relief having un-ivied access to air and sun. However, there’s a solid 2,000 hours of work to be done there before I can foresee there being anything “done” about the spot. For those unsure what it is, it’s a 1/2 acre beautiful tract of land that used to be gnarly. No longer, and only getting better! Tasks for this weekend:

Machete and Cardboard: sheet mulching the hell out of 100′ x 8′ of blackberry life.
Hand and Glove: Finishing the central retaining wall. Dry stack urbanite: what an approachable building material!
Sifter and Wheelbarrow: Sifting the debris and rocks from a row of soil.
Gloves and Ratchet: Stretching the new sides of fencing
Hand and Soil: Potting up a few hundred tomato starts
Planting!
and actually far too much more to list. But these are pretty fun.

Monday, May 17th: Project Grow Double Down! (not to be confused with KFC’s new product)
Project Grow’s first Artist-In-Residence, Brenda Hutchinson is putting on a “fun show” called “Tiny Offerings” at Sea Change Gallery at the Everett Street Lofts. Lets unpack that. Brenda is a sound and social practice artist. Sea Change is a socially-engaged-focused art gallery downtown, that Project Grow has been given the keys to for the month of May. The experiment is this: what happens when the “staff” roles diminish as much as they can, and things are created more entirely by the artists of Project Grow. It’s pretty awesome so far. This project is part of the Open Engagement Conference. So anyhow, the show is 3 minute “Tiny Offerings” by people that want to share them. There is a video camera in case you need your offering enlarged. If you can blink quickly, speak backwards, or freak people out however, please come share. It is at 2:30 pm! Early enough for even my bedtime!
