Fun (Show) Work (Party)

What a busy time. Here are some more items to add to the possibilities for cool spring opportunities:
Sunday, May 16: All Day Work Party at the North Portland Farm Annex. It’s a sprint! Things are going swimmingly. We have an incredible water hook up, a developing fence, a thousand onions, and [...]

Mt Hood, Tactical Retreat

Took a trip up Hood for a slog and an ice climb, but got turned down by consistent 40-60 mph winds and 10 feet of visibility.  All white out!  Check out the face-cicles:

At one point they joined to form and ice-thmus from hair to mustache.

Work Party at the NPF Annex

This Saturday!  11 am!  Come brave the terrible weather for some fun work.  We’ve got some land to clear, walls to build, greenhouses to build, and more!  Free Coffee!

Tactical Recon: Monkey Face

Jade and I had the pleasure of rather lovely weather for a trip to Smith Rock with aspirations for a Monkey Face Climb. We got to Smith later in the day on Sunday, so we cragged around on some pretty fun basalt columns in the lower gorge. Met some hilarious 19 yr old [...]

Sobering Numbers

13,000 – Approximate number of people who climb Mt. St. Helens each year
8,365 – feet the crater rim rises above sea level
52 – Age of climber Joseph Bohlig when he died after a cornice gave way during a casual photo at the crater rim
68 – Number of times Bohlig previously summited the mountain
Very experienced guy [...]

CSA growth

Thanks to another 1/2 acre, the North Portland Farm is going to be able to offer a jaw-dropping 5 CSA shares for 2010 (in addition to restaurant sales, sales to grocers, and direct sales).  This projects to be in line with the growth indicated by Local Harvest’s CSA by the Numbers research:

A lot of statistical [...]

EcoFarm 2010

Pretty cool. It seems like everyone has the answer for greater food production based on their wacky, new-age fertilizer/amendment/magnetic resonance water treatment, but everyone is also very nice.  Repping the North Portland Farm, networking with cool people, selling DVD’s.  Jade and I saw the fantastic Wes Jackson and the wonderful (albeit longwinded) Frances Moore Lappe [...]

Ring in the New Year with Good Work!

Portland specific work, that is. Sorry.
The North Portland Farm has been generously gifted with a new lot to rehabilitate and farm for the next many years!  Hooray!  However, it’s kindof a shit-hope right now, and needs a lot of elbow grease to fix-r-up.  This Saturday, we’ll be working at the site, digging blackberries, sequestering [...]
